Q: What is your current role at Bata and what are your responsibilities?

A: Currently, I am the Marketing Manager of Bata Bangladesh. My role involves overseeing the entire marketing function of the organization which includes brand management, CRM, brand campaign management (both in traditional and digital media) and visual merchandising.

Q: What other roles have you had and how long have you worked at Bata?

A: I joined Bata in February, 2022, so I’ve only worked 5 months for Bata. Previously, I worked in the FMCG industry where I was involved in product development, brand management, consumer research and media management.

Q: What are the most important skills for being successful in your current position? How did you learn or develop these skills?

A: Along with the functional skills required to fulfil the responsibilities in my current role, I believe it’s also important to have soft skills to be successful. Given my role involves overseeing a team, it’s imperative I possess the right temperament. This allows me to institute teamwork, lead my department in the right direction and create a collaborative atmosphere where members feel comfortable to express their ideas. The development of these soft skills is a continuous journey and I have learned them through experiences like working on various cross-functional projects, stakeholder management and leading teams in previous roles at other organizations.

Q: How would you describe the culture at Bata?

A: Bata’s culture is a unique blend of traditional and modern values. Traditional because it carries a legacy with itself which is revered by people in Bangladesh. Modern because Bata strives to remain relevant/contemporary within the lives of its consumers. The traditional values and wisdom that exist internally allows us to learn and grow. The modern values motivate us to be more entrepreneurial, to move forward and to add value to our consumers’ lives. I have found the environment of Bata to be co-operative where everyone looks out for one another. The team spirit is visible and is one of many reasons why the organization has been so successful.

Q: What do you enjoy most about working at Bata and would you recommend Bata as an employer?

A: Coming from a different industry, the learning curve has been extremely steep for me as I have gained the experience of working for a retail brand. What I enjoy the most about my role at Bata is the ability the company gives me to innovate and reinvent the practices of Marketing within the retail environment. I would recommend Bata as an employer because you truly get the flavor of working for a global company but at the same time you implement initiatives that will impact the brand at the local level. At its core, Bata truly is a “glocal” company!
